        Hobby-X, 2010: a lot of thank you's

        By Lucas Rinken, Chairman

This year's show was a GREAT SUCCESS! Possibly the best we have ever had in the years I have been involved.

The big difference was that our branch bought a computer projector and used same to good effect. Whereas in previous years, we sat at the back of the stand with my computer and our database and people had to queue around us there, often filling the store and with a limited number of people being able to see the display, this year the computer was in the front of the stall projected onto a large screen at the back of the stand where everybody INCLUDING passers-by could see and get interested.

        Dennis Pretorius verduidelik hieronder.

        Donate a book today

This is the 10th year of our branch's existence. We've been challenged by Dennis Pretorius to focus on 10 things. One of his proposals was to add 10 items to the library each month. We can each participate by donating or lending books we don't need to the branch's library. The time to start is now by bringing an item to our meeting today.

If you read this e-mail after the meeting do not despair. Contact Graham Southey at 011/87-4842 and commit by bringing the item(s) at the very next opportunity.

        The Hobby-X success

Report and Photographs by Penny Evans, blog journalist

From 4 to 7 March the West Gauteng branch set up an exhibit at Hobby X, held at the Northgate Dome in Johannesburg.

Amid the many stalls featuring arts and crafts, power tools, state of the art sewing machines, model electric trains and ultra efficient juicing machines, our genealogy exhibit stood out as being different.

Her ancestors, Lucas Rinken and e-SAGI were serious business.

        Die geheim van aanhalingstekens

"Aanhalingstekens."

        2010: Year of Family Fun

Report and photograph by Penny Evans

        Enthusiastic Dennis Pretorius.
The year 2010 will be the "Year of Family Fun" for the West Gauteng Branch of the GSSA, Dennis Pretorius declared at the branch's latest meeting on 20 February.

Dennis spoke about the branch entering its tenth year of existence. The branch was formed on 10 February 2001. He is one of  three founding members still involved in the branch's activities. The other two are Barbara Bouwer and Margaret Humphries.

Dennis called on members to focus on what the branch could do to celebrate the completion of its first decade. He suggested, with input from Japie Bosch, the following:

Daar is bekommernisse in hoe ‘n mate genealogiese inligting voortaan ingesamel of selfs geopenbaar mag word.

Hierdie Wetsontwerp sal by GGSA se Algemene Jaarvergadering (AJV) in Maart 2010 aangespreek word. Hy was vroeër nege jaar lank ‘n advokaat.
