His daughter (at school) initiated it

Kriek Fourie, our branch treasurer, started his research 9 years ago when his daughter came home from school and asked who their family was and where they had they come from. Now he has 22 000 names on his databasis.

First he started researching the Fouries and then his mother’s side, the Gerbers. Then followed:
  • Kriek’s father’s mother: Momberg and the van Dalen;
  • Father’s grandmother: Erasmus and the Deysels;
  • Mother’s side: Strydom and Slabbert;
  • Father’s great grandparents: Oosthuizen, Adlems, Lotter, Van Schalkwyk;
  • Mother side: Van Vuuren, Knoetze, Renison Terblanche;
  • Wife’s side: Kemps, and again the Erasmus Olivier, Kritzinger;
  • Strydoms, Marx, Laufs, Weidemans, Rosslee Stolz Bekkers.
Most of all the families are from Langkloof, Jansenville, Steytlerville, Graaff-Reinet Pearston, Somerset-East, Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth areas.

Extra surnames are Herselman, Naude, de Lange, du Preez, Gouws, Els, Bellingan, Jooste, Jonker and the Westpfahl families.
